PROBLEM
Human–elephant conflict in Sri Lanka has reached alarming levels, with over 400 elephants killed annually due to their reputation as crop-destroying pests. The challenge was to protect both communities and wildlife while finding a solution that was humane, innovative, and scalable.

IDEA
We partnered with Sri Lanka’s telecom provider, Mobitel, to explore creative, technology-driven solutions. Research revealed that elephants instinctively avoid bee sounds - a natural, non-harmful deterrent. The idea was to use this behavioral insight to design an early-warning system that could prevent elephants from entering farmland, protecting both humans and animals.

SOLUTION
By combining Mobitel’s network technology with strategically placed bee-sound devices and alerts, we created a system that gently guided elephants away from conflict zones. Farmers received real-time warnings, and elephants stayed safe-all without harm. The campaign blended conservation science, local insight, and mobile technology, turning nature’s wisdom into a practical solution. The result: a scalable, humane approach to human–elephant coexistence that saved lives and strengthened community awareness.
